Coláiste Chiaráin Croom V Borrisokane Community College: 1st Year North Munster Cup
Venue: The Manor Fields Adare

Our 1st year boys started 2022 in perfect fashion with a compressive win over Coláiste Chiaráin Croom in the North Munster Cup. This was a vital game as both schools had lost their opening group games to St. Caimins of Shannon. It was Borrisokane who started the brighter with Ciaran Fitzgerald setting off down the right wing having latched on to a well-placed through ball. Ciaran made no mistake and finished well into the bottom corner of the net within the opening 2 minutes. Tommy Hutchinson doubled Borrisokane’s lead on 12 minutes after an excellently delivered corer. Borrisokane were 3 to the good two minutes later, when Tommy doubled his own tally with another excellently placed volley from a carbon copy corner. 1 nil up inside 15 minutes. However, some lax marking in midfield allowed Croom a one on one opportunity, which they gladly converted on 19 minutes. It was Croom who would get the next crucial goal 3 minutes later which brought the deficit to one. However, Borrisokane dug deep and steadied the ship. Philip Lemanczyk fired a well-placed daisy cutter into the bottom right hand corner on the stroke of half time, to put some distance between the teams once again.

The second half started with the same frantic pace as the first, with both schools going close on several occasions. However, it was the menacing Ciaran Fitzgerald who slotted home his second and Borrisokane’s fifth of the day. Philip turned provider on 52’ minutes when an exquisite through ball that split the two Croom defenders and ran smoothly into Fitzgerald’s path. He made no mistake and added his 3rd goal of the day to secure his hat-trick.

Congratulations to our 1st years on an excellent win that leaves them in contention for a qualifying spot in the knock out stages. Well done to Croom for never giving up and playing right to the very end, in a game played in great spirit.

U 17 Soccer Munster Quarter Final.

The U17 panel played a Munster Quarter Final against St. Marys Newport last week.  It was perfect conditions for a game but it was St. Marys who got the perfect start and never looked back.  Credit to the Borris boys, they rallied, dug deep and outplayed St. Marys for long periods in the game and scored two well worked goals.  Well done to all members of the team, you can be proud of your efforts all year.  The future of soccer is bright in Borrisokane.
