Borrisokane Community College School News

Transition Year Events this week: Our Transition Year students were involved in a Barrista Coffee Making Workshop run by Dublin Barrista School this week.   Students got the opportunity to learn all about coffee and how to make the perfect cup of coffee.  Our students thoroughly enjoyed this experience and thanks to Mike and Richie for a fun educational day.

The Future Leaders classes had their first GAA coaching workshop this week. Thanks to Paudie Malone for his expertise again this year.

Well Read Readers For Life: We are delighted that our school is now a Wellread Readers For Life School.  This PDST Award is due to the initiatives undertaken by staff and students to get everyone reading.  Special thanks to our Parents Association for supporting our library.

Friendship Week: We celebrated Friendship Week this week.  1st Year SPHE classes made posters giving advice on how to make and keep friends. 5th Years enjoyed some tea and scones and some timeout together. To coincide with Friendship Week we were delighted to reopen our Friendship Café (Seomra Caidreamh) and it was great to see our students relaxing and having chats with friends during lunch breaks.

Parent Information Evenings: We had very successful online Parent Meetings this week for 1st and TY students.  If you were unable to attend, you can view the presentations online on our website www.borrisokanecc.ie.

Parents Association AGM: Our Parents Association AGM will take place on Oct 3rd. Stella O’Malley psychotherapist and author will talk to parents on how parents can support their children through the teenage years.  Please keep an eye on social media for more details. We are encouraging all parents to attend.

ASD Fundraising: Our caretaker Ger Maher is heading to the Camino from Sept 30th to Oct 7th to raise funds in aid of our ASD Centre.  We have a GoFundMe page set up and sponsorship cards are out.  We would be delighted if you could support us.  Details available and link to the GoFundMe page are on our social media.

U16 Hurlers: Our U16 hurlers played a challenge game against Portumna Community School this week.  Great preparation for the upcoming games.

Senior Hurlers: Our senior hurling team had their first challenge game of the year on Friday against Our Lady’s Templemore. They had a good first game of the season winning on a score line of 6-19 to 3-18 with lots of players getting their senior debut and a big panel being used. Good start to the campaign, well done lads.

Hospice Collection: On Thursday the staff held a coffee morning in aid of North Tipperary Hospice and raised over €200.  On Friday students enjoyed the opportunity of attending school without the school uniform.  Over €1000 was raised from the no uniform day and we now look forward to our Students Council making a presentation to North Tipperary Hospice in the coming weeks.
