On Thursday 9th March the PE department helped by a group of Transition year students ran a very successful Olympic themed Sports day for all 1st year students. A sports day supports inclusion for all and enjoyment in a safe manner. Sky sports representative Mr Andy Fahy assisted the twenty TY students in organising and preparing for the event. The day began with an opening ceremony where students representing different countries entered the hall. They all then performed the HAKA. A range of sporting events including sprinting, relay race, long jump, basketball, soccer and table tennis took place. After lunch fun events including the cross bar challenge, long puck and three legged races were enjoyed by all the students. Students were awarded individual medals for winning in the various events. Marks were awarded for winning places and these were added up for each class. The winning class, 1A, was recognised and celebrated. Well done to all involved. A great day was had with many students competing at a high level. Skills and talents in the area of fitness and sports was demonstrated by many. Once again this enjoyable fun day of activity promotes wellbeing in the whole school community. Every student was given the opportunity to flourish.
