BT Young Scientist
Transition year students, Adam Ryan and Senan O’Brolchain competed in the BT Young Scientist competition, supported by their teacher Ms. Jacqueline Hayes. They were selected from over 2000 entries to be part of the final 500 projects, both students took part in a virtual event and completed a gruelling three rounds of interviews. Adam Ryan completed a project on “How healthy is healthy? Does creating “good” exercise/eating habits as well as increased pressure in sports directly link with the development of eating disorders?”. he received very positive feedback from the judging team on the extent and depth of his research and on the range of school activities that he ran during the project. Adam led interventions such as More than a Selfie, Be Body Positive and a Transition Year Walk.
Senan completed a project on “Solar Panels and their uses”, he made many interesting conclusions and he received praise from World Wise Global schools on his work in the project in promoting a more sustainable world. His project had an environmental focus which involved promoting the use of more sustainable forms of energy supply.
Transition year students enjoyed a Watch Party on Friday afternoon for the Young Scientist Awards Ceremony. This was a nice way to celebrate the achievements of the transition year students involved. Thanks to all the staff and students involved.

Borrisokane Community College Transition Year Student Senan O’Brolchain was part of the BT Young Scientist Exhibition with a project on “Solar Panels and their uses”. He highlighted information on the funding that is available for the installation of Solar Panels.
Borrisokane Community College Transition Year students attended the virtual BT Young Scientist Exhibition Awards Ceremony.
Junior Camogie
Borrisokane Community College Junior Camogie team had a well-deserved win over Tulla Community School on Monday last with a score line of 3-13 to 1-4. They will be playing in the Junior Final in the coming weeks. Best of luck to the girls and their coaches Ms Maher and Ms King.
TY Future Leaders Event Management
Ms Cunninghams’ TY Future Leader class are continuing with their work running events as part of the Event Management module. On Wednesday they ran a Sports Trivia table quiz for all first years. Next week we will have the Grand Final. Well done to the TYs on running such an excellent event.
Engineering Courses TUS
Thanks to Peader Henehan who delivered an excellent virtual talk on Engineering courses that TUS have to offer. We were very grateful to gain an insight into engineering course content and the career opportunities they provide.
Club na nÓg
Club na NÓg was back in action again this week continuing Pilates with Jane Hannigan. Tus iontach do 2022.
Student Wellbeing
Our students in the ASD centre this week started an introduction to Taekwando. Over the next few weeks they will build up their skills and learn the basic techniques of Martial Arts.
Erasmus Update
This week our students were busy designing a logo to represent the project ‘Include Me’. This logo has to represent inclusion, storytelling and eTwinning. We look forward to seeing the finished product.
Students participating on our eTwinning project ‘Life From My Perspective’ engaged with our European partner school’s. Students performed songs and poems online. Well done to all involved.
